Earlier this week, there was a rumor that Lucid Games may no longer be working on the Twisted Metal reboot. According to VGC Now it turns out that the Firesprite studio has taken over the Twisted Metal game.
In addition, a Reset ERA User noted that Matt Southern, the director of several games for Motorstorm, resigned his role as game director at Lucid this month and assumed the same role at Firesprite.
It is not yet clear if Southern will actually work on a Twisted Metal project at his new employer. Firesprite already has several projects in production, including the new PlayStation VR2 game, Horizon Call of the Mountain.
Sony Acquisition of Firesprite
Firesprite was acquired by Sony last year and is located in the UK. The studio was founded in 2012 by former members of SIE Studio Liverpool, after Sony closed it down. It is not yet clear why the Japanese publisher has moved the project to its new studio. It is thought that it could be due to Destruction All-Stars for PlayStation 5. The game was not well received, so Sony may fear that Twisted Metal is also the victim.
For now, it has not been officially confirmed that a new Twisted Metal game is in the works.
