The new Pokémon Snap is four times more successful than the original N64 at its UK launch • Eurogamer.de

Currently, the third place among the Switches starts in 2021.

  • This makes it the number three of the most successful Switch game releases in 2021.
  • The game is currently being followed by 24,709 people on Twitch.

In the UK, New Pokémon Snap topped the retail game sales charts during its first week. It sold four times more than the original when it was released in the late 1990s.

Nintendo’s newest game about photogenic little pocket monsters is pretty much a remake of a title that hit Europe in 2000 for the Nintendo 64. That was at a time when interest in Pokemon stories, whether in form of anime series or video games, it was quite high. The enthusiasm for the franchise has remained intact to this day. In the UK, New Pokémon Snap started with four times more retail sales than the original.

Generally speaking, the switch is as in gamesindustry.biz means of course also a bigger bestseller than the N64. Spending on video games and platforms has continued to grow over the years, but New Pokémon Snap is not doing badly even compared to recently released titles.

Sales of the new paparazzi game were 2.5 times higher than the latest spinoff game in the franchise: 2020’s Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX.

Pokémon Snap is all about the perfect snapshot

This makes it the third largest Switch game release in the UK this year after Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury and Monster Hunter Rise.

The new Pokémon Snap was also able to beat the launch of the great sci-fi shooter Returnal at first, but that may say less than expected. After all, more people own a Nintendo Switch right now than a PS5, which is exclusive to Housemarque’s roguelike game.

We don’t currently have clear sales figures in Germany, but hopefully New Pokémon Snap did well here too. The cute Pokémon can currently, for example, serve an audience of 24,883 people (right now) on the Twitch platform, making it 22nd of all games currently streaming.
