We expected it for a long time, but unfortunately: the extension of HBO Max to Europe does not apply to the Netherlands. We are surprised, but even Andorra is in first place. In addition to Spain, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Sweden. Did the Netherlands end up as a test country?

No more testing country

The Netherlands and Poland are often testing countries for new possibilities. For example, Netflix’s new game option is currently being tested in Poland and we were the first country in the world with Disney + in the Netherlands. Apparently the luck of our streaming service has run out for a while, because we have to wait longer for HBO Max.

We were hoping to be among the first group of European countries to be able to watch HBO Max, but we have yet to settle for regular HBO, which is only available through Ziggo. In fact, Holland is not even part of the second batch. It is made up of: Poland, Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia, Portugal, Montenegro, Romania, Bosnia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Serbia, Hungary, Moldova and North Macedonia.

The worst news is not even that our country and Belgium are not part of it: the second batch is not planned until 2022. In addition to not appearing in these series, it is also striking that relatively leading countries such as Germany and the United Kingdom are missing. On the other hand, it’s clear that HBO Max is looking more towards the regions. And that takes its time: there are HBO Max vacancies for HBO Max in Amsterdam.

On HBO Max you can watch all kinds of content from Warner Bros. Think DC, HBO, HBO Max Originals and Cartoon Network. Warner Bros. whole idea of ​​streaming motion pictures for a month immediately after release on HBO Max is not valid in Europe.

Specific region

It is a shame to realize that HBO does not consider us a leader or at least a good indicator for the rest of Europe. On the other hand, that doesn’t have to be the case – it’s probably mainly because HBO has clearly opted for regions that aren’t our turn yet. Very unfortunate, because we really want HBO Max to come along, especially if that’s separate from Ziggo.

Ziggo would have indicated that HBO Max will make its appearance in our country in 2022, but if we are not in the first batch yet, it will not be at the beginning of the year for now. So only Netflix, Disney + and Video countries.

HBO Max Offer

HBO Max Originals includes The Fungies, Karma, An American Pickle, Selena + Chef, Expecting Amy, I Hate Susie, and The Flight Attendant. What makes HBO Max so much better than HBO as we now know it in the Netherlands is the movies. The arsenal of prints that the new streaming service comes with is filled with classics like 8 Mike, Analyze This, and City of God.

We also do not yet know how much the service costs in euros. In dollars, it costs $ 14.99 for the deluxe version without ads. With ads you pay $ 9.99.
