The report is an additional legitimacy for the US Federal Reserve to raise interest rates in March, commented a market observer. Above all, the continued high wage growth in the United States is causing headaches. Employment there rose significantly more than expected in January.

The Dax went 1.75 percent lower at 15,099.56 points from trading. It was thus heading back towards the 15,000 mark, which has been regarded as an important support for months. Since its intermediate high in the middle of the week, it has already lost around four percent. The German leading index ended the week, which was again characterized by fluctuations, with a discount of 1.4 percent.

Out of concern that interest rate policy would be tightened more rapidly, the swings in the stock market were also accompanied by a sell-off in bonds. In this ailing market environment, the MDax also dropped significantly on the last trading day of the week and ended trading 1.67 percent lower at 33,080.56 points.

Interest rates are already being raised in Great Britain, the first step is expected in March in the USA and the expectation that countermeasures will soon have to be taken in the eurozone is also growing. The stock exchanges have been suffering from these prospects for weeks because shares are losing their attractiveness as a result.

The papers from BMW, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, and the supplier Continental went down by 2.7 to 4.4 percent. The technology and internet sectors, which had already slipped heavily the previous day, looked a little better at the end of the week. The US giant Amazon with strong business figures dampened the concerns of investors to a certain extent. The recovered title of the meal kit supplier Hellofresh conquered the top of the Dax with a plus of 2.44 percent.

Close behind were Deutsche Bank shares, which continued their recent rally with a 2.40 percent gain. In addition, the titles of the German stock exchange gained a good one percent. In turbulent stock market times, they are seen as profiteers because of the increased activity of investors.

In the MDax, Evotec’s shares fell by 16 percent. The drug researcher had to accept a serious setback in the cooperation with Bayer. The partner stopped developing the compound Eliapixant as a drug candidate for chronic cough.

K+S was on the positive side of the MDax with an increase of 2.3 percent. High fertilizer prices and good business with de-icing salt drove the potash and salt group last year more than expected. In the SDax small-cap index, Flatexdegiro benefited from a positive assessment by the experts at Exane BNP Paribas with a plus of 2.4 percent.

In a global comparison, the Dax is negative. While the EuroStoxx 50 was faithful by 1.31 percent to 4086.58 points, the losses on the Paris Cac 40 were significantly milder at minus 0.8 percent. London’s FTSE 100 closed just 0.2 percent lower. New York’s Dow Jones Industrial was down 0.3 percent most recently, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 rose 0.8 percent.

After a strong rise the day before, the euro stabilized well above the $1.14 mark. Most recently, $1,1452 was paid. The European Central Bank set the reference rate at 1.1464 (Thursday: 1.1286) dollars. The dollar thus cost 0.8723 (0.8861) euros.

On the bond market, the current yield turned positive again for the first time since spring 2019, turning from minus 0.09 percent the previous day to plus 0.04 percent. The pension index Rex faithful by 0.78 percent to 141.68 points. The Bund future fell 0.52 percent to 166.09 points. (DPA)
