Tsunami in Tonga: they find the body of a British woman swept away by a wave | UK News

The body of a British woman swept away by the tsunami has been found in Tonga, her brother has confirmed.

Angela Glover, from Brighton, went missing after an undersea volcano erupted near the South Pacific island on Saturday, sending huge tsunami waves to its shores.

Family and friends of the 50-year-old woman had called for her whereabouts, with posts on Facebook saying that Mrs Glover and her husband James had returned home to pick up their dogs when the tsunami hit.

Ms Glover’s brother, Nick Eleini, said the family was “devastated” her body had been found and asked for time for the family to grieve.

“I don’t even have the words in my vocabulary to describe how we feel right now,” he told reporters.

“It’s just a terrible shock what happened to us. We are ordinary people, this does not happen to people like us, but it happens. »

Eleini said her sister was found during a search organized by her husband and received confirmation on her journey back to the UK from Australia, where she currently lives.

He said: “Angela and James loved their life in Tonga and they loved the Tongan people, especially the Tongan love for the Tongan family and culture. »

The eruption of an underwater volcano off the coast of Tonga has triggered a tsunami warning for several island countries in the South Pacific.

Mrs Glover had set up the TAWS (Tonga Animal Welfare Society) charity on the island and was a great animal lover.

“The uglier the dog, the more he loved it,” his brother said. Mr Glover is an experienced tattoo artist and runs his own business in Tonga.

Eleini added: “She was beautiful. She was absolutely a ray of sunshine. It would walk into a room and just light up a room. »
