Bharti joins BT: Indian telecoms group invests in Britain

BT Group plc. (ISIN: GB0030913577) announced on 12 August 2024 that Bharti Global has entered into an agreement to acquire approximately 24.5 per cent of the issued share capital of BT Group from Altice UK.

“We welcome investors who recognise the long-term value of our business and this scale of investment from Bharti Global is a major vote of confidence in the future of BT Group and our strategy,” said Allison Kirkby, BT's chief executive.

BT has been working with Bharti Enterprises for a long time, it said in a statement. The British airline recently reported a decline in company sales compared to the previous year.

BT Group is the UK's leading provider of fixed and mobile telecommunications and related digital products, solutions and services.

The telecom network operator also offers managed telecom, security and network and IT infrastructure services to customers in 180 countries.

Through its wholly owned subsidiary Openreach, it provides wholesale fixed access infrastructure services to over 700 communications providers in the UK.

British Telecommunications plc is a wholly owned subsidiary of BT Group plc and includes substantially all of the businesses and assets of BT Group, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange.
