What do artists like Fantastischen Vier, Freundeskreis, Orson, Cro or Marz have in common? They all come from Stuttgart and the surrounding area and when it comes to rap, they are all usually more laid back. While conscious backpacking rap was and still is in full swing in Stuttgart, for a long time the city was hardly considered the home of the hardest lyrics… until 2016.
“Who does Para?” with Eno it becomes a hit
Because in 2016 the rapper Dardan raised the dust of Stuttgart for the first time! Along with fellow rapper Eno, the then 18-year-old with Kosovar Albanian roots released the song “Who made Para?” The song went viral on the internet and the music video now has over 30 million views. Suddenly, the name Dardan was on everyone’s lips and the Zuffenhausen district of Stuttgart became known throughout the country.
Dardan goes platinum twice
Collaborations with well-known rappers like Nimo or Olexesh were not long in coming before Dardan released his debut album “Dardy Luther King” in 2018. Four more studio albums with numerous top ten singles followed to this day. At only 25 years old, the artist can already make two platinum and five gold records his own, and fills up large halls on his concert tours.
Inspiration from Great Britain
Dardan’s musical style is similar to English grime. Grime is a British style of music that has its roots in hip-hop and electronic music, particularly two-step.
This “dirty” music made the rapper a star. Today it has long been an integral part of the German rap scene!
