London and Washington released reports on Hong Kong’s political freedom record
Hong Kong officials have called on foreign powers to stop meddling in China’s internal affairs after the US and UK governments released reports of an alleged deterioration in political freedoms in the city.
“We strongly oppose the baseless and ridiculous accusations against the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region made by foreign countries through various reports.” officials of the world financial center said in a statement on Friday. “The government urges foreign countries to stop interfering in China’s internal affairs through Hong Kong affairs. »

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken also commented on the issue, accusing the Chinese Communist Party of allegedly dismantling Hong Kong’s democratic institutions.
“Hong Kong’s freedoms are shrinking as [People’s Republic of China] tighten your rule. The differences between Hong Kong and mainland Chinese cities are narrowing due to the ongoing PRC crackdown.” said the top US diplomat.
Before 1997, Hong Kong was a colony of the British Empire. Today, the city is one of the two special administrative regions of China. under the principle “one country, two systems” Hong Kong enjoys a special status that keeps government and economic systems separate from those of mainland China.
