Vacuum cleaner maker Dyson wants to cut up to 1,000 jobs in Britain – Economy

Malmesbury (dpa) – Home appliance manufacturer Dyson is planning to cut jobs in Britain. Up to 1,000 jobs are to be lost, the British news agency PA reported. This corresponds to more than a quarter of the jobs previously located there. Dyson is known for its bagless vacuum cleaners and also produces hair dryers and hand-drying devices.

“We have grown rapidly and, like all companies, we review our global structures from time to time to ensure we are prepared for the future,” chief executive Hanno Kirner said, according to PA. “We are proposing changes to our organisation that may result in redundancies.”

The company has around 14,000 employees worldwide and, according to the BBC, around 3,500 employees in Britain. Dyson operates in increasingly competitive global markets, Kirner said. Decisions affecting close and talented colleagues are always particularly painful.

The tech company was founded by entrepreneur James Dyson, who, according to the Sunday Times, is one of the richest people in the UK and campaigned for Brexit. The company moved to Singapore a few years ago. At that time there were also plans to develop our own electric car. However, the plan was again rejected.
