DChinese short video app TikTok wants to launch its own logistics offering in Britain. “Fulfilled by TikTok” (FBT) aims to make it easier for retailers to sell their products via the in-app “TikTok Shop” e-commerce solution.
The offering includes storage, picking, packing and shipping of goods to app users. The aim is to free retailers from time-consuming logistics processes and thus free up time for other aspects such as marketing or product development, the company said in a statement.
Specifically, TikTok promises automated same-day shipping for all orders received before 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, a premium next-business-day delivery service, and “improved metrics regarding shorter delivery times.” For this to work, retailers deliver part of their inventory to a warehouse owned by the app operator. Customers should be able to decide for themselves what and how many items are stored and shipped via FBT.
The offer is aimed at retailers who are based in Britain and deliver there; packages cannot weigh more than 30 kilograms or have a volume of 31.5 cubic liters per shipment. TikTok charges fees for storage, shipping, packaging and other services such as labeling or inserting leaflets. that can be seen here.
The company has not yet officially commented on the expansion of its offering to the US or European markets, but according to media reports, TikTok has big plans for its own e-commerce activities. You can read more about this in the next issue of DVZ.
