Import of live animals and feed raw materials necessary for the export of meat.
Dutch meat exports require imports, such as live animals, meat that has not yet been processed or raw materials for animal feed. Live poultry is the largest import category (240 million euros in 2019, mainly from Germany), followed by corn and wheat. Corn (mainly from Ukraine) and wheat (particularly from France) indirectly contribute to Dutch meat exports as a raw material for animal feed. Other food products are crude palm oil (particularly from Indonesia and Malaysia) and soybeans (particularly from Brazil and the United States).
