Siemens Gamesa: RWE chooses recyclable blades – 03/09/2023 at 14:54

(CercleFinance.com) – Siemens Gamesa announces that its recyclable blade technology, RecyclableBlade, has reached another important milestone, having been selected by RWE for 44 SG 14-222 DD offshore wind turbines to be installed at the Sofia offshore wind project in the east coast of the UK. .

In 2022, RWE became the first large-scale commercial offshore developer to install Siemens Gamesa’s fully recyclable blade.

The Sofia project will use 108-meter-long RecyclableBlades, representing the first deployment of this variant.

“Having the opportunity to produce and install 132 RecyclableBlades for the Sofia project is a remarkable achievement. This fully demonstrates the shared drive of our companies to develop and deliver even higher levels of sustainability for renewable energy generation globally,” said Marc Becker, Managing Director of Siemens Offshore Business Gamesa.

As a reminder, the use of Siemens Gamesa’s RecyclableBlade technology allows the complete recovery of the blade components at the end of the product’s useful life: resin, fiberglass and wood, among others, are separated by means of a solution mild acid.
