No more cookie posters in the UK?

Many people are annoyed by the cookie ads that appear on almost every website. In Britain, this should end in the future. At least if we are to go by the British government's plans. The planned data reform bill aims, among other things, to reduce pop-ups and banners on the Internet. heise reported.

Browser settings instead of pop-up

Currently, you must give your consent to the collection of data using cookies every time you visit a website. In the future, users in the UK will have the option to individually define a global setting, for example via browser settings. The setting for which you agree to the use of cookies will only have to be made once and not every time you visit a website.

The UK government has not yet issued any concrete guidelines. However, the technology must be effective and easily available to users, so users should retain control over how their data is used.

In Germany, too, the TTDSG theoretically created the possibility of a personal information management system (PIMS). This is intended to give users the opportunity to make settings once and not change cookie settings every time they visit the website. However, the TTDSG initially only provides that the federal government can determine the requirements for such services. It has not yet been used.

GDPR distance also in other areas

In other areas, too, they want to move away from the European GDPR regulations. For example, in some cases, small businesses should be exempt from the obligation to have a data protection officer. Although high data protection standards are said to be maintained, companies should be given more flexibility in their implementation in the future.

The national data protection office, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), will also be modernised. In future, there will be a greater emphasis on growth, innovation and competition.
