Good for logistics companies like Amazon, but also for farmers and security companies.
Appropriate authorisation should be granted, for example, for the supply of medical products or for the inspection of various structural structures, such as power lines and railway tracks.
The new regulations could be useful for numerous industries, such as “for security companies protecting property, for maintenance companies supervising infrastructure, for transporting medical supplies in case of emergency or for farmers controlling their land,” says one Reuters reportThe decision is also particularly interesting for retailers and logistics companies such as Amazon.
Flights beyond visual range
Although in Britain, flying out of line of sight is currently permitted on a trial basis and only under strict conditions, in the future it could in principle be possible to fly drones out of line of sight. In such cases, the pilots of the flying objects would rely exclusively on the cameras built into the drones themselves.
More about the subject:
The proposals now submitted by the regulatory authority envisage the use of drones precisely where flight space is rarely used: in particular, drones should be at low altitude – i.e. not above 15 metres – and close to buildings and infrastructure. A maximum distance of up to 30 metres from buildings and a distance of up to 15 metres from roads or railway tracks is required.
The security level is not compromised
“Allowing drones to fly beyond the pilot's line of sight without restricting other aircraft in that area will be a significant achievement for drone operations in the UK,” said Kevin Woolsey, head of remotely piloted aircraft systems at the CAA. The proposals would allow drone deliveries to continue to increase in the UK without compromising safety levels.
The CAA's proposals will now be followed by a six-week consultation, which may result in changes.
