Meta leaves the News tab on Facebook in France

To reorient its activities, in particular towards video content, Meta has decided to abandon the Facebook News tab in several European countries, including France, the United Kingdom and Germany.

While European users will soon be able to get rid of ads on Facebook thanks to a paid service, Meta has just made a new announcement about its main social network. Indeed, The American company has decided to eliminate the Facebook News tab in France.in Germany and the United Kingdom by the end of 2023. For Meta, this decision is part of the desire to reorient your investments towards the products and services most appreciated by users. Simply put, Facebook News is down and it’s time for Meta to put an end to it. “ We know that people don’t come to Facebook for news and political content: they come to connect with others and discover new opportunities, passions and interests.” writes the Menlo Park signature on an official press release.

News does not interest Facebook users according to Meta

According to statistics shared by Meta, news accounts for less than 3% of what Internet users see in their Facebook newsfeed. For media outlets and editors, this news won’t change much. In fact, they retain access to their respective Facebook pages and accounts, while they can Always post links to your articles and direct people to your websites.

Additionally, news organizations can also continue to use certain products like Reels and Facebook’s advertising system to reach broader audiences. Finally, let us point out that Meta undertakes to respect all existing agreements with publishers of the three countries affected by this decision. However, the company will no longer enter into new commercial agreements related to publishing content on Facebook News and does not intend to launch new Facebook products and services dedicated to news organizations in the future.
