Smaller than usual frame and some video-only honors: The “GQ” gala honoring “Men of the Year” honored people from the worlds of television, sports, music, podcasts and fashion .

Berlin (AP) – Rapper Marteria (38), talk show host Markus Lanz (52) and BVB star forward Erling Haaland (21) are among “GQ” magazine’s men of the year.

They were honored Thursday night during a gala dinner at the “Men of the Year” awards in Berlin, as was 32-year-old comedian and podcast host Felix Lobrecht (“Mixed Hack”), the French star of the series. Netflix’s Omar Sy (43, “Lupine”) and internationally successful German actor Tom Wlaschiha (48).

Berlin’s ruling mayor, Michael Müller, brought his daughter Nina to the red carpet and to the menu, while “Tatort” actor Vladimir Burlakov from the Saar Sunday crime thriller appeared next door for the first time with his partner.

ZDF announcer Lanz, Dortmund footballer Haaland, movie star Sy (“Pretty Best Friends”) and Wlaschiha (“Game of Thrones”) had not come and thanked them for the award through a video.

Katrin Bauerfeind led the evening in an indoor restaurant in Berlin-Mitte in front of about 150 guests according to 2G rules, only vaccinated and convalescing.

It wasn’t just men who were praised: singer Zoe Wees (19) received a rookie award and model Karolina Kurkova, who appeared in bright red, an icon award.

Italian businesswoman Chiara Ferragni, who is one of the most successful influencers in the world with more than 25 million subscribers on Instagram, was named “Woman of the Year”. Her gold-colored corset attracted all eyes.

The “Men of the Year” awards from the lifestyle magazine “GQ” are given in several countries, including the USA, Great Britain, India and China. The German edition of the style magazine has existed for 24 years. In 2021, the frequency of the previous monthly magazine dropped to four times a year. In doing so, the magazine lives up to its original name “Gentlemen’s Quarterly” (more or less “The Quarterly for the Gentleman”).
