A resident of the Guérande peninsula (Loire-Atlantique) will participate in the CUltimate Frisbee World Championship has the Angelsto USA.
Testing will take place from November 1 to 5, 2023.
Sylvain Demars lives in Assérac, near Guérande. He is one of the 16 players of the French ultimate frisbee team, grand master category (40 to 47 years old) who will participate in this World Beach Championships in Huntington Beach.
Graduate in Pornichet
Sylvain Demars is a member of On the Tchac side of the water, the Pornichet frisbee club, the result of a merger with Corsept. With 150 members, from 10 years old, the club plays in 1 national and is French Champion 2023 on the grass.
Sylvain Desmars has been competing in frisbee since 2005.
On the grass, on the beach, indoors.
This team sport arrived in France in the 1980s.
Fun, requires few resources, it is played on grass, 7 against 7, or indoors or even on the beach, 5 against 5, depending on the season, but also with different knowledge and competitions.
Pitch, direction, rotation, skill, precision and coordination of movements are essential qualities for players: you must make clean passes and catch the frisbee before intercepting opponents.
No referee
Another peculiarity of this sport, there is no referee, the foul is recognized by the player and in case of dispute a discussion is required.
“In each competition we can aspire to the title of champion based on the results, but also to the title of champion of fair play, which is also very popular,” explains Sylvain Desmars.
“Of course, we can aspire to both. This year, the French team aspires to the podium,” adds the player.
It will be opposed by the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, the Philippines and Venezuela.
Ultimate Frisbee is on the list of sports that, in a mixed version and on grass, could participate in the Olympic Games in the coming years.
