British authorities block Justin Kluivert’s arrival at Fulham

According to the English press, Justin Kluivert will ultimately not join Fulham at the end of the transfer window. The AS Roma Dutch striker was reportedly denied a work permit by the British authorities. A setback for the two clubs, which had sealed the transfer of him with a purchase option.

A blow to the head of Fulham. After long weeks of negotiations, the London club thought they had completed the signing of Justin Kluivert at the end of the transfer window. The AS Roma striker would land on loan, with a purchase option estimated at 9 million euros. But according to the english press, the deal would have ultimately collapsed. Blame the British authorities, who allegedly refused to issue a work permit to the 23-year-old Dutch international, strictly applying the rules in place since Brexit (early 2020).

A foreigner must meet a number of requirements if they wish to come to work in the UK. In the case of a footballer, it is in particular the playing time of him, in the club and in the national team. And at this point, the British authorities would not have been convinced by the CV of the son of Patrick Kluivert, who has 2 selections with the Oranje. Recruited by Roma from Ajax Amsterdam in the summer of 2018 (17 million euros), Justin Kluivert spent the last two seasons on loan in Leipzig and Nice.

Roma would be “stunned”

According to The Athletic, Fulham have been denied the opportunity to appeal. Across the Channel, the case is considered closed. A real setback for the Cottagers, forced to review their plans at the last moment, as they start an encouraging season for their return to the Premier League (they are currently 6th).

According to Gazzetta dello SportAS Roma would have been informed of the situation last night. And the leaders of the Italian club would be “stunned” by this unexpected outcome. At the moment, neither Fulham, nor Roma, nor Justin Kluivert (hired until 2023) have reacted to this information.
