London (dpa) – Right-wing populist Nigel Farage, known in Germany as a vocal critic of the EU and supporter of Brexit, takes part in the British television edition of the jungle camp. Broadcaster ITV confirmed the 59-year-old’s participation in the next season of the reality show “I’m a Celebrity – Get Me Out of Here!”, which will air in Great Britain “I’m A Celebrity… Get me out of here!” It is called and will start in a few days.
Farage has been presenting a television show on GB News for two years. In his own words, he wants to take advantage of his appearance at the jungle camp to reach a younger audience and polish his image, since he is wrongly perceived as “evil, narrow-minded and unpleasant.” . According to British media reports, his participation will also be sweetened with a generous sum of up to one million pounds (around 1.14 million euros).
The former Ukip party leader, who played a key role in Britain’s decision to leave the EU, had to travel to Australia to film, like all camp participants. The colorful group, of which Farage stands out as the best-known figure, can expect all manner of humiliating ordeals with a high disgust factor, in which the public decides who receives the harshest punishment.
Farage apparently has no illusions that he will emerge victorious from the challenge: “Given that millions of people hate me, I hope people will let me do these tests.” But perhaps there is an opportunity there too. «I hope all the haters hate me a little less after this than before.
