Boris Johnson latest updates: Zelensky to address UK Parliament as Ukrainian refugees face ‘chaos’ – Reuters

Priti Patel defends the UK visa system for Ukrainian refugees

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will address the House of Commons via video link today and is expected to advocate for more weapons and a no-fly zone over Ukraine to be imposed by NATO.

Zelensky’s speech comes as the UK Home Office revealed that only 300 visas had been granted to Ukrainians after receiving thousands of applications for its Ukrainian family programme.

A total of 8,900 applications were submitted, but only a few hundred were approved, the government said.

Ukrainians coming to the UK said the independent face ‘total chaos’ as they try to apply for permission to join family in Britain under the Home Office’s bespoke visa scheme after Downing Street contradicted Priti Patel’s promise to extend the road.

The ministers have been accused of ‘defrauding the Ukrainians’ after it emerged that those fleeing the Russian conflict have to travel for hours and in some cases wait days before they can apply for the family migration route from the Minister of the Inside.
