Many Ukrainians have found temporary accommodation in Britain thanks to a mediation programme. But the future of the show is unclear.
There are warnings in the UK that dozens of Ukrainian refugees could become homeless in the coming months. The British “Guardian” reports. The newspaper cites a joint analysis by the children’s aid organization “Barnardo’s”, the Social Democratic Labor Party and the Liberal Party.
According to the analysis, between 15,000 and 21,000 Ukrainians could lose their homes in Britain this winter. The number could rise to 50,000 by mid-2023. The Refugees at Home group believes the number will be even higher due to rising costs of living and energy in the country.

The reason given for the development is the possible end of the government program “Housing for Ukraine”, which could expire next month. With the program, refugees were placed with private individuals. They were supposed to house the refugees for six months and received the equivalent of 412 euros per month. A total of 83,900 Ukrainians are said to have been placed through the program.
The responsible refugee minister, Richard Harrington, had announced that monthly payments would be doubled in future. However, the Ministry of Finance has not yet approved the project. In addition, a major cabinet reshuffle is imminent in Britain in early September, when incumbent Prime Minister Boris Johnson leaves office. Current Secretary of State Liz Truss is considered the favorite for the job.
