UK imposes new sanctions on Iran. Sport

the United Kingdom announced, on Monday, November 14, 2022, new sanctions against about twenty Iranian officials, in response to the repression of the demonstrations unleashed in the country by the death of mahsa amini.

“These sanctions target leaders within the Iranian regime who are responsible for egregious human rights violations”said the Minister of Foreign Affairs james smartlyquoted in a press release.

A new set of sanctions

They were taken in coordination with other states and with the European Union, which must approve a new set of sanctions on Monday. “Together with our partners, we send a clear message to the Iranian regime: the repression of protests must stop and freedom of expression must be respected”James Cleverly insisted.

Among the sanctioned Iranian officials are Information and Communications Minister Issa Zarepour and the head of the country’s cyber police.

Journalists arrested in Iran

Since the start of the protests, the regime has blocked or restricted Iranian access to the Internet and social networks, such as Instagram and Whatsapp, while journalists have been detained, recalls the British Foreign Office.

Last month, in an earlier round of sanctions, the UK sanctioned the leaders of Iran’s moral police and other regime officials.
