The British hoped that Brexit would allow their economy to prosper and their authorities to better control their borders. Many of them seem very disappointed with the result, to the point of calling for a referendum to return to the EU.
According to a Savanta survey for the independent, 65% of Britons would demand a new vote to reconsider Brexit. A figure in clear progression since the same survey was carried out last year, in the same period, and just over half (55%) of those surveyed already wanted a new referendum.
In detail, we note that some Brits want a vote fairly quickly, while others are willing to wait a little longer. Thus, 22% of those surveyed call for a referendum within the next five years, 24% within six to ten years and only 4% anticipate it within twenty years. By comparison, the proportion of Britons who reject a new Brexit referendum has fallen from 32% to 24% in one year.

While the majority of Britons surveyed believe that Brexit is partly responsible for the deterioration of their economy, many also believe that it has damaged the UK’s image internationally. This applies in particular to trade. At the end of December, the British Chamber of Commerce asked the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his government to review their agreement with Europe, concluded under Boris Johnson, to improve trade.
