Coronation chicken has been one of Britain’s national dishes since the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Now Charles III. chose his food.
Great Britain is looking forward to May 6, 2023. Then King Charles III. crowned in solemn ceremony. Many community luncheons across the country are again planned for Coronation weekend, dubbed “The Big Lunch”.
The 74-year-old and his wife Camilla, who is a year older than him, have now selected a recipe to propose to royal fans as a dish for the celebrations. The actual website contains the exact instructions and video for preparing the “Coronation Quiche”.
You need these ingredients for the actual quiche
It is a quiche “with a crispy, light crust and delicate aromas of spinach, beans and fresh tarragon”. The royal house recommends a green salad or boiled potatoes as a side dish. The quiche can be eaten hot or cold.
According to the recipe, the dough calls for flour, a pinch of salt, cold butter, lard and a little milk. For the filling you will need milk, cream, eggs, tarragon, salt and pepper, cheddar cheese, spinach and broad beans. You can also download the recipe in PDF format from the website.
The coronation day is celebrated by the community
“The Coronation Day Big Lunch is designed to bring neighbors and communities together to celebrate the Coronation and share friendship, food and fun,” the recipe reads. Charles’s wife, Camilla, has been a patron of the initiative since 2013 and has attended The Big Lunch events in the UK and around the world. At the end of the celebrations for the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s throne, Britons across the country celebrated together with picnics. The initiative is organized by the charity The Eden Project.
Coronation Quiche is a nod to the famous Coronation Chicken, which was invented in 1953 for Charles’s mother’s coronation and is still considered a British national product today. The recipe was published across the UK in the run up to Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation to inspire recipes for the big day.
