Boris Becker was imprisoned in Britain for 231 days. He was mainly visited by his girlfriend. But not everyone was allowed to go to prison with him.

Boris Becker spent about seven months behind bars in Britain. During this time, his girlfriend Lilian De Carvalho Monteiro especially supported him. The two spoke on the phone every day and she visited him regularly for two hours. His two eldest sons, Noah and Elias, also visited his father in Huntercombe, but only two months after his imprisonment. Because in his first days in prison Becker did not want to receive visits from his family, as he revealed on Tuesday afternoon in an interview with Steven Gätjen.

“We fear for their safety”

Other visitors were turned away by the prison. “I am very good friends with Jürgen Klopp and Johannes B. Kerner,” Becker said. The Liverpool FC coach and the television presenter also wanted to visit him and he gave their names to the responsible authority, but the request was rejected. Jürgen Klopp was “too well known,” was the reasoning. “We fear for his safety and we don’t want so much scandal,” those responsible reportedly said.

Last but not least, you received support by mail. Some senders surprised him. In addition to numerous fans, Becker also received messages from tennis colleagues. “Michael Stich wrote me a three-page letter.” That moved him a lot. He also wrote to her from other former Davis Cup friends and celebrities such as tennis coach Barbara Rittner. “Long letters, now not just ‘greetings’, but two or three pages,” says Becker, visibly moved. “I didn’t expect it. (…) That helped me every day not to lose discipline.”
