In all the years of this century, the Netherlands was the largest exporter of alcoholic beer in the EU, but the difference with Belgium is decreasing. The export value of beer is 75 percent higher than in 2000, but the Belgian export value has increased by almost fivefold in the period 2000-2020. Germany and France are the third and fourth exporters of alcoholic beer in the EU.
Worldwide there is a country that exports considerably more alcoholic beer than the Netherlands and that is Mexico. Especially in the last four years, Mexican beer exports have exploded and the country now exports twice as much beer as the Netherlands. The Netherlands is the second largest beer exporter in the world after Mexico.

The export of non-alcoholic beer grows faster in percentage
Since 2017, non-alcoholic beer has been measured separately in statistics. Any beer with less than 0.5 percent alcohol counts as nonalcoholic beer. In 2017 and 2018, Germany was the largest non-alcoholic beer exporter in the EU, but in 2019 and 2020 the Netherlands assumed this position. The export value of non-alcoholic beer was almost double in 2020 than in 2017, while German exports barely grew. Furthermore, the Dutch export of non-alcoholic beer grew much faster (+83 percent) than the export of alcoholic beer (+11 percent) during this period. After Germany and the Netherlands, Bulgaria, Poland, Spain and Belgium are the largest exporters of non-alcoholic beer. The strong growth of non-alcoholic beer export in Bulgaria in 2020 is remarkable.
