Bromley (AP) – US Open winner Emma Raducanu spent the first night at her home in Britain watching a recording of her final victory.
She tried to relive a few moments and remember how she felt, the 18-year-old Briton told the BBC. “When I looked at it, I almost felt that I was not the one who played some of those shots,” said the tennis player. “I knew exactly what was going to happen, but there are still some very tense moments and I was very proud of the way I went through some phases.”
The teenager had returned to Bromley in New York five days after the 6: 4, 6: 3 victory over 19-year-old Canadian Leylah Fernandez in New York. His Chinese mother first gave him homemade dumplings, he said.
“I’m slowly realizing it,” Raducanu said. “But it’s still such a dizzying experience. I loved every moment. It’s a very difficult thing to understand.” With her victory in the tournament, the 23rd in the world rankings became prominent overnight. Among other things, he attended the Met-Gala fashion show, where he spoke with British Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton. He received congratulations from Queen Elizabeth II and Prime Minister Boris Johnson. He will likely spend a significant portion of his $ 2.5 million prize money on travel and tournament training, Raducanu said. “Tennis is an expensive sport.”
