Summer 2022: Gymshark to open its first store on Regent Street

Gymshark is an online sportswear store established in 2012 by an English student, Ben Francis. Next summer, the brand will open its first physical store on Regent Street, London.

On the Gymshark website you can buy various products for sports, such as bodybuilding or fitness. There are, among other things, bras, jackets, shorts and tights. The brand, born in the West Midlands in 2009, is today internationally known. The next stage of its expansion will be marked next summer.

The impressive evolution of the British brand

In 2009, Ben Francis was a second-year business student at Aston University. Still living with her parents, she worked at Pizza Hut and sold sweatshirts that she sewed from home. In parallel with these activities and with the help of a friend, Lewis Morgan, he created the Gymshark website. Twelve years later, this online sportswear platform is known around the world and now weighs over a billion pounds.

Although Lewis Morgan left the company a few years ago to pursue other endeavors, Ben Francis remains Gymshark’s majority shareholder. Since the summer of 2020, General Atlantics, an American company, has owned 21% of the successful company. Until now, the brand had the peculiarity of focusing solely on online sales, from its headquarters in Sollihul in the United Kingdom. This year, new offices were opened in Denver, USA, and new projects crystallize Gymshark’s expansion.

A real Gymshark store will open in London by summer 2022

The brand has just announced the opening of a first Gymshark physical store at 165 Regent Street, London’s legendary shopping street. Thanks to a 10-year lease from The Crown Estate, the brand will have a 1,672-square-meter building in the heart of the British capital. On the program: the sale of Gymshark products, but also community events, training sessions and lessons with teachers. This opening should allow the creation of 100 jobs.

Ben Francis, named Entrepreneur of the Year 2020 by EY, expressed his enthusiasm for this project: “ It’s amazing that I started this brand nine years ago in my West Midlands room and now I have a store here on Regent Street. This store will reinvent the Gymshark business and I can’t wait to see it grow. “According to the Brit, his team has been working on this project for some time,” We knew we were going to do this, and it had to be in an iconic location, and there is nothing more iconic than Regent Street. ».
