Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry like to present themselves as the more accessible version of Britain’s royals. They take selfies, hold hands in public, and don’t hesitate to share intimate information about their private lives. In their Netflix documentary, Meghan’s now-discontinued podcast “Archetypes” and Harry’s book “Spare” repeatedly revealed intimate details.
But the newly surfaced emails now raise the question of how real it all is. For a few days now there have been new revelations about a shoot that Meghan did for the Netflix documentary. The Duchess of Sussex was followed by cameras as she visited a school in a poorer area of New York and read a book to the children there.
Now details about the conditions of the visit are known again. And they show that Meghan’s team wanted to strictly control the performance, down to the smallest detail, no matter how strange.
Duchess Meghan’s employee with a strange suggestion
In 2021, Meghan was traveling to New York City. One afternoon, at PS 123 in Harlem, she read her book “The Bench” to the children. Some time ago it emerged that Harry and Meghan’s team was demanding a lot from the school in advance. The newly surfaced emails now show how far they went.

He “daily mail” is email correspondence between members of Harry and Meghan’s team and the New York Department of Education. This shows that employees of Harry and Meghan’s “Archewell” foundation, which was responsible for organizing the visit, put each many conditions, but often remains very vague.

According to the newspaper, there were plans to equip the school with a new carpet and new cushions. The reason: these would suit Meghan better. The school is located in a district where primarily low-income families live.
Confusion over filming permission
While this detail is mostly curious, another issue raised in the emails raises more questions. From the news published by the Dailymail, it seems that the Sussex team requested permission to film at the school.
When ministry officials asked what exactly the material would be used for, Archewell was vague. “The content could be used in a future documentary. It is not intended for promotional purposes,” the message says. Meghan’s visit to the school eventually became part of the Netflix documentary about her and Harry. But they obviously didn’t want to point that out right now.
The Sussex team also attempted to closely monitor who was allowed into the event. As Dailymail reports, no British tabloids received accreditation. Media outlets such as “Vogue” were invited, which previously often reported positively about Meghan.
