Where are the British after Brexit? This will be discussed at the Herrenhausen Forum.
Brexit or no Brexit: this question occupied Europe for four years. Then the United Kingdom left the EU on February 1, 2020. Island and continent, that has been a difficult relationship since the founding of the current European Union: Two failed accession attempts, national referendums and numerous exceptions attest to this. Why was it so difficult for both sides?
Discussions over Brexit have also left their mark on domestic politics: the country is socially and regionally divided and far from being a “United Kingdom”. Where are these breaks? What about the new old relationship with the mainland? Does the “splendid isolation” idea work? Where are the British after Brexit?
To converse:
Prof. Dr. Gerhard Dannemann, Center for British Studies, Humboldt University of Berlin
dr. Imke Koehler, ARD London correspondent
dr. Helene von Bismarck, historian and publicist
It will be moderated by Ulrike Heckmann from NDR Info.
