Shiseido acquires Gallinée, a skin microbiome expert brand

Shiseido has announced its intention to acquire all of the outstanding shares of Gallinée, a London-based beauty brand that is a pioneer in microbiome-friendly skincare.

Founded in London in 2014 by Maria Drago, a French pharmacist who had worked for fifteen years for skin care brands, Gallinée was inspired by the personal story of its creator, affected by an autoimmune disease and her desire to create products that protect the “good bacteria” of the skin . Ella’s thesis in ella’s pharmacy was the basis for the patented combination of probiotics, prebiotics and postbiotics that forms the heart of the Gallinée range.

The brand offers a range of 17 beauty products designed to take care of the skin’s microbiome “from head to toe”. The range is mainly sold in France and the UK.

Gallinée will bring a unique addition to Shiseido’s portfolio of brands given its focus on beauty and wellness, as well as its differentiated positioning in the emerging field of the skin microbiome. “Shiseido explains in a press release.






The Japanese group will provide the start-up with its commercial resources and the R&D capacities of its European Innovation Center, with the aim of developing its presence in the EMEA zone.

Upon completion of the transaction, Marie Drago will join Shiseido’s EMEA team and continue her innovation and brand support work as Chief Creative Officer of Gallinée, reporting directly to Franck Marilly, President and CEO of Shiseido EMEA and Fragrances. global.
