Serco Group plc wins £200m maritime services contract

Serco Group plc has won a contract with the UK Ministry of Defense (MOD) to continue to provide maritime services to the Royal Navy. Following the end of the 15-year Private Finance Initiative (PFI) agreements for the provision of maritime services, the new agreement is made directly with the Royal Navy. The contract, valued at around £200m, will run for 27 months from December 2022 and follows directly from the current PFI, ensuring continuity of support.

The MOD has the option to extend the contract for up to six months. Serco has supported the Royal Navy for over 25 years, facilitating the movement of Royal Navy ships in and out of port and providing a range of other support services including the testing of new maritime technologies, the transport of passengers, support for military training exercises and the supply and maintenance of mud and moorings. The team of 650 qualified sailors and engineers provide these services at six locations across the UK, including Her Majesty’s Naval Bases (HMNB) Devonport, Portsmouth, Clyde and BUTEC Ranges in the Kyle of Lochalsh, as well as overseas.

Serco operates and maintains just under 100 tugboats and other vessels, with a length of 11.93 m and a tonnage of 12.3600 gross tons.
