Just a few days ago, Amazon announced the start date of the Lord of the Rings series on Prime Video and there are already the first details about the filming of the second season. Consequently, production will move from New Zealand to Great Britain. Filming for season 1 is far from over. More recordings will be made in New Zealand until June 2022. The first episode will begin on September 2, 2022 for subscribers.
For the first time, a modern production of The Lord of the Rings will be filmed outside of New Zealand. The Hobbit film trilogy was also shot on the two islands of the Southwest Pacific. Those responsible for Amazon have not yet announced the exact reason for the measure. However, given that other Amazon productions are also based in the UK, a change from Lord of the Rings makes sense.
Although there is now a start date for the series, not many details about the story are known yet. Amazon also continues to keep a secret about the show’s official title. The action will take place thousands of years before the events of the two film trilogies of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. A first image of the series was only published at the beginning of the month. The showrunners are Patrick McKay and JD Payne. The cast list now includes more than 30 actors. How many Amazon seasons are planned has yet to be announced.
