London (dpa) – In Great Britain, scripts from the cult series “Friends” were auctioned for 22,000 pounds (equivalent to 25,600 euros). Auction house Hansons announced on their website that they were amazed by the huge global interest. The scripts contain text from the last two episodes of the fourth series, when Ross wants to get married in London, but accidentally says Rachel's name at the altar.
“The bidders were crazy for these scripts,” Amanda Butler of the auction house said, according to the announcement. Apparently they were found in an old television studio. “Apparently, the cast and crew were instructed to destroy their copies so that the ending would not be revealed. “The two must have escaped.”
In an interview with the BBC, Butler explained why he believes the scripts are real. The woman who found the scripts worked at the television studio in the '90s and found them in the trash. “And she has kept it ever since. I think she forgot she had them.”
Now the woman had other objects auctioned and asked if the scripts also had possibilities. The auction house considers the backstory authentic: the scripts are not like those that can be easily purchased on the Internet. The auction house initially expected between 600 and 800 pounds (between 700 and 930 euros). In the end, the bidder paid just under 29,000 pounds (about 33,700 euros), fees included.
