Last February, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles III. suffers from cancer. It is not known what type of cancer the monarch suffers from, but the 75-year-old immediately underwent treatment. Unlike Kate, who underwent abdominal surgery in January, he has appeared in public several times recently.
However, on Monday, Russian media began spreading fake news about King Charles. Now the British embassy in Ukraine has made a clear statement.
King Charles is definitely not dead
Several Russian news sites reported that Charles died from cancer complications at the age of 75. Some Russian media reported the news without citing sources, others referred to a false statement from Buckingham Palace. The fake news spread quickly on social networks.
Watson is now on WhatsApp
According to the “daily mail“The Russian news agency Sputnik reported the following: “According to the media, King Charles III. of Great Britain died at the age of 75. “There is no information about it on the royal family's website or in the British media.”
The agency has since withdrawn the report. It's unclear how the message came about. While it is certainly not the first time that Russian media has spread fake news, it is not every day that even British royalty are affected by it.
British embassy comments on Charles
In the end, even the British embassy in Ukraine felt compelled to clarify the false report. On his official channel on X (formerly Twitter) he reported on Monday around 2:30 p.m.:
“We want to inform you that the news of the death of King Charles III is false.”
In fact, there is nothing to indicate that King Charles III will die soon: despite his cancer, he is already planning his next trips and public appearances. For example, Charles is expected to be present at the traditional Trooping the Color military parade in June.
The King Charles fake news incident occurred just one day after Putin's rigged election victory in Russia. Many Western countries criticized the (non-)elections. No real opposition candidates were allowed in the three-day vote, so Putin's approval rating of 87 percent isn't really significant.
