A handmade 1988 DIY Hustler kit car is up for auction in Bristol, UK. It is a special example, because it is one of the few versions made of wood.
The car was designed by William Towns and built by John Brazier of Bristol, British. Brazier was a former Rolls-Royce engineer, who later worked for many years as a carpentry and metalworking teacher.
It is estimated that fewer than four hundred Hustler kit cars were built, many of them made of fiberglass. This 1988 example is one of the few versions made almost entirely of wood.
The vehicle was used extensively for thirteen years by the Brazier family, who traveled around the country in it. The car has been in storage since the early 2000s.
The car has space for eight people: two in front, two in the middle and another four people in the back seats. According to the auction house, the car is “a unique vehicle” and “the attention to detail is second to none.”
Brazier even made the gear shift lever, handbrake and steering wheel out of wood. The car also has a cassette recorder and a folding dashboard that can fit two glasses.
Those interested must bring a trailer, since the vehicle is no longer circulating. You will receive a box of spare parts.
It is estimated that the Hustler can sell for between 2,000 and 3,000 pounds (between 2,300 and 3,500 euros).
