Winter revolves around documentaries: a big topic every day
Phoenix’s holiday program chronicles the moments that mean the world. At the beginning of the year, the channel will offer vivid documentaries with ten thematic days and two special weeks from December 18, 2023 to January 7, 2024.
The varied selection of films begins with the themes “Time Travel”, “Winter Journey” and “Fascinating Worlds”, “Family Stories”, “All Africa!”, “On Four Wheels” and “The Sound of sea”. Other highlights of the festival program are dedicated to important historical themes, such as “Mysteries – Secrets of History”, “The World of Antiquity” and “Discovering Germany”. Under this title, Phoenix organizes a thematic focus on Germany with a variety of documentaries, which will run throughout the year 2024 and begin the first week of January with a thematic day on New Year’s Day.

12/23 Travel in time
Exciting insights into the Ice and Stone Ages, Germany 7,000 years ago, the lost worlds of the Mayans, Incas and Aztecs and Australia’s history shaped by colonialism. There’s also plenty of retro charm with East German pop, West German TV legends and pan-German film stars.
12/24 Winter Trip (Christmas Eve)
Sparkling expanses, snow-capped forests, snow-capped mountains – for many, winter is the most contemplative time of the year. But people and animals face very special challenges, even in the deepest cold, requiring special survival strategies. At the end of the year, Phoenix takes its viewers on a journey to the frozen regions of our world, travels through Alaska, Greenland, Canada and Scandinavia and also searches for enchanting winter images in the temperate climate of our latitudes.
12/25 Fascinating worlds (Christmas Day)
On Christmas Day, the phoenix rises for the first time so that viewers can see it from a bird’s eye view, showing off fascinating landscapes and visiting special worlds in Europe. The daily program focuses on the North and Baltic Seas, Great Britain, Poland, Italy and Spain. At night, the phoenix dives and presents the fascinating blue natural wonder of the world’s oceans. The six-part documentary series “The Blue Planet” is a cinematic journey through the oceans, deep seas, coral reefs and coastlines of the world.
12/26 Family Stories (Boxing Day)
The focus here is on the gripping story of the once inseparable business brothers Theo and Karl Albrecht, the life of the Chancellor’s wife and committed citizen Hannelore Kohl, the royal Windsor dynasty and the hard-hit Kennedy clan. of destiny.

The thematic day “Mysteries – Secrets of History” delves into the different legends of different cultures. What is behind the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle? Did Atlantis ever exist? The “All Africa!” theme day presents the second largest continent on our planet in all its diversity and beauty. There is no other continent where so many different peoples live, where a similar number of languages are spoken, and nowhere else are there natural spaces where wild animals can be observed in such diversity. “Alles Afrika” invites you on an adventurous journey through one of the most impressive parts of our planet and tells moving stories about life between tradition and new beginnings.

The thematic day “The World of Antiquity” highlights the diversity of ancient traditions, portrays prominent personalities of antiquity and provides information on the main political power relations of the time. This also creates a moral portrait of ancient societies, their customs and lifestyles. In addition, the main centers of power that permanently shaped the world of antiquity are presented: the Hellenistic Mediterranean region, the Roman Empire and ancient Egypt.

A documentary declaration of love for the sea, for the oceans, for the sea. For a day and a night, Phoenix listens to the sound of the sea (Terra and to the people whose lives and work are influenced by the sea in a very special way.
1.1.2024 Discover Germany (New Year)
On New Year’s Day, Phoenix opens the annual theme of the same name with the theme “Discover Germany.” Starting from a journey through the history of the land, the themed day takes viewers on a journey to different regions of Germany and showcases its nature, its exceptional buildings, as well as the country and its people.
