Prince Harry is in London. There is no meeting with his father. Once again the public feels the family feud.
The gulf between Prince Harry and the British royal family is once again evident during his current stay in Great Britain. Both he and his father, King Charles III, were in London on Wednesday, but there was no meeting.
Among other things, Charles wanted to inaugurate in the afternoon the series of traditional garden parties at Buckingham Palace, to which hundreds of Britons are invited every year. Also scheduled for the day was his weekly meeting with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Harry, for his part, was expected to attend a service at St Paul's Cathedral later in the afternoon. It is located about five kilometers from Buckingham Palace.
A spokesman for the 39-year-old said Tuesday that a meeting between Charles and Harry was “unfortunately not possible due to Her Majesty's busy schedule.” Harry “of course understands his father's daily responsibilities and other priorities and hopes to see him soon.” Harry had recently arrived in Britain to take part in events marking the anniversary of the Invictus Games, which he founded for disabled athletes, including a church service.
Carlos has an important appointment with his eldest son and heir to the throne, William. As reported, among others, by the British newspaper “Daily Mail”, Buckingham Palace announced that next week the monarch will participate with William in a military event. The heir to the throne should be appointed colonel of the army aviation corps.
Royal insiders see this announcement as another piece of advice against Harry. Prior to his decision to step away from royal duties, he had always assumed that he would take on the role of colonel. This would have given him leadership of the regiment he was with in Afghanistan. King Charles himself held this position for 31 years.
It has been known since August 2023 that William will take up this role following Harry's retirement in 2020. But the announcement that this was now the case, according to the Daily Mail, came two hours after it was announced that Charles was too busy to meet with Harry in London. “Timing is everything,” is how one royal describes the ads. Another expert estimates that Charles' decision not to see Harry during his stopover in England will be “widely perceived as a snub.”
