6 special models of the Commando 961, V4SV and V4CR for the anniversary of the British manufacturer
Energette, Manx, Transaltatic and 588
Founded in 1898, Norton Motorcycles has just passed a new milestone this year by celebrating 125 years of existence. To celebrate this key milestone, as well as its return to the forefront through TVS, the Solihull brand has decided to launch no less than six special edition motorcycles that echo its glorious history.
Norton thus remembers the successes obtained in competition, whether with his World Champion titles, his 94 victories in the Tourist Trophy or his numerous Motorcycle of the Year trophies. For this, the British manufacturer was inspired by four emblematic models: the Energette, the Manx, the Formula 750 Works Racer and the NRS588.
energette
Based on the Norton Commando 961, the Commando 961 LE (Limited Edition) “Energette” is inspired here by the original design of the first Norton in history, produced between 1902 and 1906. We find the logo of the time, the yellow color that adorned this machine, the silver finishes, the brown saddle, the spoked wheels and even a commemorative plaque.
Manx
This time, the English manufacturer was inspired by its most famous motorcycle, a 13-time TT winner, produced between 1937 and 1962 to create the Commando 961 LE Manx. Dressed with a black fork and Öhlins suspensions of the same color, the roadster uses the traditional gray and black color and the logo of the time.
Transatlantic
The Commando 961 LE Transatlantic is inspired by the machines entered by Norton in Formula 750 with drivers such as Phil Read, Peter Williams, Tony Rutter and David Aldana in the early 1970s. It features the tricolor livery with gold details and black finishes. Like its sisters, it also bears the 125 Years Limited Edition logo.
588
Born in the late 1980s, the Norton F1 was the production version of the innovative RC588, RCW588 and NRS588, victorious in the British Superbike and the TT. This machine had the particularity of being powered by a double 588 cc rotary engine. Norton has chosen to use the black, gray and gold colors of the F1 for its Commando 961 LE “588”.
The retro roadster, however, is not the only one affected by this modern revision, since the British brand has also carried out the same operation on its V4CR café racer and its V4SV sports car.
If at the moment Norton has not yet given a precise availability date, we already know the prices… for the United Kingdom.
It costs around £18,999 for each of the four special editions of the Commando 961, £49,999 for the V4CR “588” and £51,999 for the V4SV “588”.
