June 12, 2020 – Olympic medallist Georgie Harland (pictured) has been appointed as Team GB's Chef de Mission for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, becoming Great Britain and Ireland's first female Chef de Mission in the North for the Olympic Games. Harland, 42, a former modern pentathlete, won bronze at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games in the individual event. In charge of the British NOC's sporting commitment for almost ten years, she was Chef de Mission for the Lausanne 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games and Deputy Chef de Mission for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, a role she will take up for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games next year. May 22, 2020 – The British NOC announced on 19 May that Team GB had joined forces with its official charity partner, the British Red Cross, to celebrate kindness during Mental Health Awareness Week, which runs from 18-24 May. This week is organised by the Mental Health Foundation. This year's theme, 'Kindness is what makes us', features a number of Team GB athletes from nine summer and winter sports reciting a poignant poem, demonstrating the importance of kindness towards ourselves and others to support our mental health, especially in the current circumstances. Alongside the Olympians, a series of images illustrate people from their communities supporting the British Red Cross during the coronavirus outbreak, through simple acts of kindness. March 16, 2020 – On 11 March, the anniversary of the 2011 earthquake in Japan, the British NOC announced the appointment of the British Red Cross as the Official Charity Partner of Team GB (TeamGB) for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. The partnership aims to inspire the international community. The British public will come together and make a difference this Olympic year by providing support to those in need in the UK and beyond.
