New Pokémon Snap clearly outperforms Returnal for PS5

Last Friday, New Pokémon Snap and Returnal, two exclusive games for their respective platforms, appeared in the stores. On the one hand, the Pokémon Company celebrated the return of the photographic safari after 22 years for Nintendo Switch, on the other hand, Housemarque has now published Returnal, its first AAA project of its own for the PS5. GfK has now assessed the sales figures for the physical units of the games in Great Britain.

After the weekend, New Pokémon Snap easily topped the UK charts. The title was able to sell almost three times more physical copies than Returnal. Housemarque’s game came to second place in the standings. With more Switch consoles spread across households in the UK, New Pokémon Snap’s top spot is, of course, not much of a surprise. Also, Photo Safari has sold very well compared to other Pokémon derivatives. The numbers were 2.5 times higher than the value of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX. In a duel with the original for the N64, the Switch game sold four times as often.

However, New Pokémon Snap was not comparable to the release of a main Pokémon game. But Returnal also sold below typical numbers for a PlayStation Studios exclusive game. GfK does not list digital drives in the UK charts.
