Manchester. Manchester United, English soccer’s record champions, parted ways with Russia’s state-owned airline Aeroflot as sponsoring partner after Russia invaded Ukraine.
“In view of the events in Ukraine, we have withdrawn Aeroflot’s sponsorship rights,” said club manager Ralf Rangnick. You share the concerns of fans around the world and sit down with those affected.
As part of a far-reaching sanctions package against Moscow, the British government on Thursday banned the airline Aeroflot from landing in the UK. Russia then closed its airspace to British planes.
A few days ago, Manchester United had already distanced itself somewhat from its previous partner Aeroflot and had canceled a flight with the airline for the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 in Madrid on short notice. Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, coach Rangnick and company flew on a charter plane. Before that, the club flew to the matches of the European competition with the Russian airline.
