The British government is not resting under Liz Truss either: the prime minister has parted ways with a secretary of state for trade.
A secretary of state in the new British government has been sacked over allegations of “serious misconduct”. Prime Minister Liz Truss has relieved Commerce Secretary Conor Burns of his duties with immediate effect, a Downing Street spokesman said on Friday afternoon. In addition, the deputy was excluded from the parliamentary group for the duration of the investigation. Burns said that he would cooperate and clear his name.
The allegations were reportedly made after the Tories party conference in Birmingham this week. According to the “Sun”, Burns behaved inappropriately with a younger man in a hotel bar. Burns was considered a confidant of former Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
In recent months and years, cases of individual MPs behaving inappropriately or even being sexually assaulted have made headlines. The initially faltering handling of one of these cases also hastened the downfall of former Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
