(CercleFinance.com) – IBM on Thursday presented a series of new projects based on its geospatial artificial intelligence technologies, with the aim of fighting global warming.
The American group explains that it uses its geospatial data exploitation tools, in particular its basic model developed with NASA, to monitor carbon emissions (CO2) in Saudi Arabia.
In Kenya, IBM says it is working with the government to envision tree planting and farming activities in specific water reservoir areas.
In the United Arab Emirates, the company is working with the Mohamed Bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) to map urban heat islands, areas where temperatures are significantly higher than in surrounding communities.
In the UK, IBM has partnered with the Science and Technology Facilities Council’s (STFC) Hartree Center to explore the application of next-generation technologies, including AI, to address climate risks.
The service’s first use case will focus on the aviation sector, where IBM’s geospatial AI will assess the long-term impact of climate change on future airport operations and infrastructure.
These announcements come while the United Nations climate change conference (COP 28) is being held in Dubai.
