Great Britain: Millionaire explains his lifestyle: “I had to quit or die”

Former British bus driver Peter Lavery has won more than €12 million in the lottery. But after partying excessively, the 61-year-old had to put on the brakes.

He was just 34 years old when his life changed suddenly and completely. Former British bus driver Peter Lavery won just over 10.2 million pounds (the equivalent of more than 12 million euros) in the May 1996 lottery. He then left his job and began the life of a super man rich. But now it seems that he is hitting the emergency brake, as reported by the British newspapers “The Sun” and “Daily Mirror.”

Lavery still lives in wealth, which sets him apart from many other lottery millionaires. He still lives with his wife Vikko and three dogs in a villa in Belfast, an area where many professional footballers apparently live. His house has five bedrooms, three living rooms and a garden full of decorations. His house also has a bar with capacity for 160 people.

Lavery also owns a collection of more than 300 pieces of Swarovski crystal, including various animals and figurines. “I had to stop buying them because I didn’t have any more space to put them,” she told British news site The Mirror.

The alcohol problem got worse

The former bus driver demonstrated good business skills, buying properties across Belfast and setting up charitable foundations. But while Lavery has been doing well, he reveals that he is now cutting back on some areas of his life.

Lavery often travels on holiday and has had long nights out with friends since winning the lottery. Lavery also spent a lot of money on cars: Jaguars, Bentleys and some four-wheelers.

But when he turned 40, his health problems worsened. He was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and the doctor told him to give up his “partying lifestyle,” The Mirror wrote. The lottery millionaire explained: “I didn’t drink every day, but as soon as I had a drink I didn’t want to go home. That’s nothing to be proud of.”

According to his own statements, he realized that if he continued like this he would soon no longer be there. Lavery continued: “I had to stop or die.”

The Brit still likes to travel by plane on vacation, still travels on cruises and lives in a huge house. But, according to his own statements, he hardly drinks anymore and sells all his cars, except a Mercedes. His love for luxury cars has died out.
