The variant had already been discussed, now the British government is putting it into practice: in the next few days, people should see soldiers at the wheel of tanker trucks, Economy Minister Kwarteng said.

ORTo control Britain’s fuel crisis, soldiers will soon be ordered to drive tanker trucks. “We have decided to do this and I think that in the next few days people will see some soldiers driving tanker trucks,” British Economy Minister Kwasi Kwarteng told the BBC on Wednesday. The government had already announced Tuesday that the army would be on standby due to the problems. Soldiers are currently being trained to drive and fill tanker trucks.

At the same time, the minister stressed that the situation was already softening. The Gasoline Retailers Association (PRA) also reported, according to the BBC, that there are signs that the pressure is easing. Only about 40 percent of the service stations of member companies in the country remain on land. On Sunday that was the case for two-thirds.

The background to the UK fuel crisis is a shortage of truck drivers, which has already led to gaps in supermarket shelves. Since gas stations had to close last week due to a shortage of drivers, there have been panic buying. Long lines form in front of service stations.
