In the rest of Europe, the high-speed train does not exceed 320 kilometers per hour.
The 54 trains ordered will run on the new English high-speed line HS2, currently under construction. In addition, trains will also continue on the existing track to places like Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow.
The much-discussed high-speed rail line to central and northern England suffered another setback last month when the British government decided to scrap a planned extension to Leeds in the north-east of the country. It was confirmed that the Birmingham connection will also be extended to Manchester. HS2 has been dealing with ever-increasing costs for years. They already exceed 100 billion pounds.
Incidentally, Siemens, which also participated in the tender, has taken legal action. The German train builder believes that the process was not fair.
Big boost for UK trainbuilding as Alstom and Hitachi Rail to build HS2’s fleet of next-generation 360 km/h (225 mph) high-speed trains at their factories in County Durham , Derby and Crewe. pic.twitter.com/9xil2ThtxC
