Buckingham Palace officials posted the official announcement of the Queen’s death on the palace gate at night. Many broke down in tears when the flag was lowered at Buckingham Palace. Hundreds of people had gathered outside the Queen’s official London residence before the announcement.

The British queen died on Thursday night at the age of 96. Her successor to her throne is her eldest son, Carlos. The new King Carlos III. and his wife Camilla spent the night at Balmoral Castle and will return to London today.
