Cristiano Ronaldo focuses on Manchester United after international break with Portugal

Cristiano Ronaldo has promised Portuguese fans to return to the country as soon as he has focused on Manchester United and to return to the UK after the international break. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner did not have the best moment during the international break, as Portugal failed to secure a place for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in the qualifiers after suffering a 1-2 loss to Serbia. The EURO 2016 champions will now play the qualifying round of the tournament to earn their place in the mega event.

Ronaldo posted a photo on Instagram with his girlfriend Georgina Rodríguez on Tuesday, writing a heartfelt note to Portuguese fans, promising that he would return to the country soon.

“No matter how far we travel in the world, it is always in Portugal where my family and I feel at home. The fantastic climate, the delicious food, the affection of the Portuguese, it is always a pleasure to return to my country. Time to go back to Manchester and fully focus on our goals, but we will be back soon. See you soon, Portugal! Ronaldo posted on Instagram.

Meanwhile, on Sunday Aleksandar Mitrovic scored in the 90th minute when Serbia stunned Portugal with a 2-1 victory to advance to next year’s World Cup in Qatar, leaving Ronaldo in danger of missing the tournament after four consecutive appearances.

Ronaldo also missed the opportunity to score his 800th career goal against Serbia.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo will now return to Manchester United to fight for titles with the Premier League giants who are also going through a rough patch over the past two months.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United suffered massive defeats against Liverpool (0-5) and Manchester City (0-2) last month and now the chances of winning the Premier League title have diminished for them.

Pressure is mounting on Solskjaer to put the campaign on the right track, as United have invested a lot of money in the summer transfer window to sign stars like Ronaldo from Juventus, Raphael Varane from Real Madrid and Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund .

The Norwegian manager’s job is in jeopardy as various reports link former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane to Old Trafford, having previously worked with Ronaldo.
