King Charles worked more than the queen in the first year of his reign

King Charles III (74) completed more working hours and a greater number of appointments in his first year as British monarch than his mother, Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022), during her first twelve months on the throne. This was revealed by an investigation by the British news agency PA. Since he took office on September 8, 2022, Charles has worked 161 days and has had more than 550 appointments, while the Queen had around 400 appointments in 157 days in the first year of his reign.

Compared to his grandfather, King George VI. (1895-1952), the current British king was not up to the workload, with the monarch completing more than 570 appointments in 183 days.

Several media outlets such as The Telegraph report on the analysis, which has been prepared using the official record of the daily activities of the Royal Family. Not only did Charles make further appointments, he also toured all four parts of Britain in his inaugural year as king. The Queen, however, only visited Northern Ireland later.

Although the number of dates differs: the calendars of the three monarchs are quite similar in many places. In their first year, they all attended the horse races at Ascot, participated in garden parties, hosted ambassadors from around the world, and met British prime ministers at audiences. Charles met the Prime Minister 26 times – Liz Truss five times and Rishi Sunak 21 times. His mother had 27 audiences with Winston Churchill in his first year. George VI Furthermore, although he met frequently with political representatives, he only had twelve audiences as prime minister, seven with Stanley Baldwin and five with Neville Chamberlain.

Charles has made two trips abroad since becoming king: a state visit to Germany in March 2023 and a private visit to Romania in June. Elizabeth II and George VI however, their early years remained in the United Kingdom. However, Charles’s mother was in Kenya when she learned in 1952 that her father had died and that she had become queen. She then quickly traveled back to Britain.
